Product Details
The accurate name for optical audio cables is SPDIF interface. Physically, there are two forms: optical and coaxial. Regardless of which form it is, its bandwidth is designed according to the 16-bit, 44.1kHz CD audio standard. The early design goals of Dolby 5.1 or DTS were also to compress the 5.1 channel PCM into the bandwidth of CD audio. The new standard for 7.1 channels has exceeded the bandwidth standard of SPDIF, thus requiring transmission through HDMI interface channels.
